Lookout Mountain Hang Gliding

Happy Birthday Blair!

September 5th, 2008

Lee Abelson is in the running for Dad of the Year. Last week, Lee secretly bought his daughter Blair a Falcon 2 195. He planned the surprise perfectly…drop Blair off at the training hills to reclear for the mountain, get up top, set up said glider and put a pretty red bow on it. Blair was ecstatic!

Safe Travels Anders!

It’s the end of the season for everyone’s favorite Swedish tandem pilot, Anders.  He’s probably on a plane to Sweden right now.  Anders plans to spend some time in Sweden, then off to India, and then to????

Anders has flown all over the world and we’ve been lucky enough to have him fly with us for two seasons.  People loved flying with him this year.  We had nothing but positive comments from students and discovery tandem copilots.  Thanks Anders and we hope to see you soon.

First Flights

September 1st, 2008

We’ve got some more new pilots among us! Heather had her first flight this weekend, but somehow I missed Jeff and Mauricio. Both Jeff and Mauricio flew their first mountain launches in the past several weeks.

Thank You!

First of all would like to thank the staff for all the help yesterday.  Sometimes doing things when you are in a wheelchair seem almost impossible or to be a big hassel.  But the guys on the ground made things very easy and I was very pleased with everyones help.  The experience was amazing, Ron made the flight something to remember.  Thanks again  I will definitely recomend your company to anyone I talk too, and I will be back.
thanks again,
Scott

Thank you for a great experience!

Hello All!

We planned our July Chattanooga Vacation not sure if we wanted to try to Hang Gliding or not. I am so glad the family all decided to do it. It was the highlight of the vacation!! The kids still have not stopped talking about it! You have given us memories to last forever! I want to say THANK YOU to your staff and instructors for making it all happen! Plus the sense of humor the instructors have is priceless!!! I would highly recommend your business to all that inquire! And the pictures are a MUST to add on to the experience!

Thank you so much again! We had an amazing time!

Liz, Craig, Danielle and Alex, from Illinois!

Losing the Bet!

August 22nd, 2008

This past weekend, under ideal conditions at Lookout, Bjorn Nelson and I made a $5 bet on a cone landing. Betting against Bjorn is not normally a sound move and despite my best efforts to worm out of admitting defeat, these pictures (provided by my wife Nydia!!!!) serve as prima facie evidence that I did indeed lose the bet. What great fun!

Peter, The Author, Flies

August 18th, 2008

Peter Cheney, the author of Hang Gliding for Beginner Pilots, and his family came down from Canada to fly with us. He picked a beautiful weekend. Plenty of high altitude gains and long flights. In fact, Stacy Murdoch outflew her husband (sorry Don) thermalling up to 3500 over launch yesterday. Nice flying Stacy!

Nice Racks

August 11th, 2008

Okay, nice racks is a bit cliche, but we have some great new, inexpensive Turbo Racks. Using a simple, strap-thru design the Turbo Racks are easy to use and can be quickly put on and taken off your car. No tools needed, no bolting to your car. The strap-thru design runs through your doors. I was concerned about water getting in via the strap. The manufacturer was concerned as well, so they tested the racks in rainy conditions. The Turbo Racks passed with flying colors. The manufacturer did say they don’t recommend shooting a high powered hose at your car!

The towers are made of high density foam to prevent scratching, and the support bar is adjustable to fit different vehicles.

Turbo Racks are only $49 each.  If you are looking for a universal fit, removable roof rack system, you’re going to love these!

Another Pilot

August 11th, 2008

Another week, another pilot. Kaleb took to the skies this weekend. It’s been a beautiful time to fly. The weather’s cooled off a bit, the skies are clear, and mid day conditions have brought some amazing flights. In fact, I heard that Kathy Lee made it to Lookout from Henson’s. Nice flying Kathy!

If anyone has a flight story to share, please send it my way.
